Speedball Season Ends on Podium For Tippinators

The last day of summer, September 22, was the perfect day for the Summer Slam three man speedball tournament. Teams from throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick met at Overkill Sportz in Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia for one more day of crashing bunkers and slinging paint before the end of the 2007 paintball season.

The Tippinators line of Chris "Mully' Mullins, Chris 'Fuzzy' Landry and Mark 'Tinman' Miller showed a lot of grit and determination in battling down to the wire in every game. When the day was done, and the points tallied, the Tippinators - DraXxuS line finished in second place, only two wins behind the 2006 Atlantic Canadian Champion - Team Storm.

Chris 'Fuzzy' Landry was pleased with the DraXxuS line's performance in the tournament, "There were some great teams playing today and we still managed to fight our way to 2nd. It seems almost unreal considering the level of competition..." Of his line mates, Landry said, "It was a team effort. Mark and Mully are real competitors who turned it up when they had to. I couldn't ask for better guys to play with."

Two lines were scheduled to play in the Summer Slam but due to circumstances beyond the team's control, Trevor 'Awkes' Colwell and Bruce 'Charon' Johnston were short a third player. Rather than withdrawing the line from the tournament the dynamic duo decided to soldier on in true Tippinators fashion, playing the day as a two man team in a three man open class tournament. The team's never say die attitude and love of the game showed through as the 'two man' Tippinators - Spec Ops line ended the day in sixth place, two wins out of the finals.
Johnston commented, "We were outmanned and out gunned in every game and we knew it going in." Johnston continued, "Trevor and I had no expectations at the start of the day but we managed to win or fight to the bitter end in every game. That is what paintball is all about, it was fun."

The team credits coach Kevin Curry for their success this season. Chris Mullins speaks for all members of the team, "Kevin's coaching has helped us adjust our game and make the changes needed to be more successful. Those changes have us the confidence to play tough against skilled opponents and know that we have a chance to win every game."

At the Summer Slam awards ceremony field owner Carter Johnson said of the Tippinators, "These guys have worked hard, come on strong all year and show no signed of letting up."

Curry is pleased with the team's progression throughout the season. "All the training and hard work is starting to show results. The Tipp's have jammed 5 years of training into 6 months and it is starting to pay off."
